Real-Time Monitoring
Real-Time Monitoring
The UniFi Network Dashboard is designed for "glanceable" network administration. It provides a live, self-updating view of your infrastructure across multiple sites without requiring manual page reloads.
Automatic Refresh Cycle
The dashboard maintains data currency through an automated polling mechanism:
- Refresh Interval: By default, the system fetches updated data every 15 seconds.
- Countdown Timer: A live countdown is displayed in the header, indicating exactly when the next data fetch will occur.
- Toggle Control: You can pause the automatic updates at any time by unchecking the Auto-refresh toggle in the control panel. This is useful when you need to inspect a specific site's details without the UI re-rendering.
Site Availability Inference
Unlike standard dashboards that only report site metadata, this dashboard performs Availability Inference.
The monitoring engine analyzes the status of all devices (Access Points, Switches, Gateways) within a specific site to determine its health. If the dashboard detects that a site's primary infrastructure is unreachable or reporting errors, it will flag the site status accordingly. This allows you to identify site-wide outages even if the UniFi Controller itself is still reachable.
Smart Notifications
The dashboard monitors fluctuations in your network environment and alerts you to changes in real-time.
Client Connectivity Alerts
Whenever the aggregate client count changes between refresh cycles, the dashboard generates a notification:
- 📈 Connections: A green notification appears when new devices join the network.
- 📉 Disconnections: An amber notification appears when devices leave the network.
Each notification includes the net change and the new total client count. Notifications are persistent for the duration of your session and appear in the notification stack in the top-right corner.
Visual & Audio Cues
- Stat Flashing: When client counts change, the "Total Clients" card in the dashboard header flashes briefly to draw your attention to the metric.
- Sound Alerts: A notification sound plays on every status change. This can be silenced using the Mute (🔔/🔕) toggle in the header.
- Status Color Coding: Site cards and metrics use color-coded borders (e.g., green for healthy, orange/red for issues) to provide immediate visual context.
Monitoring Metrics
The monitoring view aggregates data into high-level statistics located at the top of the dashboard:
| Metric | Description | | :--- | :--- | | Total Sites | The number of unique UniFi sites currently being monitored. | | Total Devices | The sum of all Access Points, Switches, and Gateways across all sites. | | Total Clients | The live count of all connected wired and wireless clients. | | Site Health | A summary of online vs. offline locations based on real-time inference. |
Configuration for Monitoring
To adjust the monitoring behavior, you can interact with the controls in the dashboard header:
- Auto-refresh (15s): Toggle to start/stop the update loop.
- Theme Toggle: Switch between Light and Dark modes. The dark mode is optimized for high-contrast environments and OLED monitoring screens.
- Mute Toggle: Enable or disable audio alerts for client connection changes.
